Disappointed ...

I'm not sure if this movie really deserve 7.2 , i'll give it a difficult 6 . It's so noticeable how terrible the acting was , i mean even the main actors were very bad . I was very disapointed by the choice of actors , especially from a director like Darabont , who has made two of the most oustanding films in the history of cinema ( shawshank redemption - the green mile ) .Also , most of the dialogues were so stupid , and not wellwrited , i simply couldn't feel it . Furthermore , for me , the ending wasn't at the right place at all , i think that it's just about a personal feeling that came into Darabont wich we , as spectators, undergo the consequences . There is many other ways to express the same ending , i suggest a scene where [ the survivors are just about to get attaked by a huge creature , then the man can shoot all his company , at the same time the militers appear and shot the monster , to keep the man alive with his regrets ].
If you say that the ending of darabont was to show how fear is able to destroy beleifs , principles and even hope . I'll say that we learned this at the supermarket , we dont need a similar ending . But i still think that it was a brave step from Darabont , but pointless .

I generally agree with your points.

Acting was mediocre. Dialog was stilted. Atmosphere was forced.

The ending felt forced and annoyingly out of character. Our crew of survivors who have fought so hard (despite the extreme fear) become quite passive and defeatist. Where was the effort to find more gas or shelter? Where was the gradual loss of hope as they at least try and fail to find alternatives? You don't blow your kid's head off without trying everything. But Darabont could not show a realistic loss of hope because that would have clued us to what was coming and spoiled his message. The concept was flawed. It was clumsily contrived to set up a predetermined conclusion that Darabont was obviously very attached to for whatever reason. The result was an unforgivable betrayal of the characters we had come to identify with.

Darabont said he turned down twice the budget just so he could keep his ending. So there is your reason for a lot of the mediocre acting and special effects etc. Also to be blamed on the ending. Aristic hubris is a destructive thing. Darabont took license to leave the book and he blew it.

I mostly agree with this and my rating was a 6/10 as well. The acting is a little weird. Can't put my finger on it but it is often very wooden. Could have to do with the poor dialog and the needlessly drawn out scenes. Also some scenes that clearly were meant to be scary or dramatic come across as funny to me. Not a good film.
