Rappelling Question

On the Patagonia episode, Bear has to rappel down a 150 foot waterfall. In the next shot, he's shown with the same rope around, wrapped around his torso. In a real-life situation, how would he have gotten the rope back down? honest question as I' not familiar with climbing at all.

reply

most ropes are 60m in length. his might have been 70m. but that still isn't enough to rap 150ft.

unless he used some method in which he could use the whole rope and still be able to get it back I don't know how it's possible

reply

Bear does weird ties that allow him to keep the rope.

I don't know how to tie the knot, but essentially you must keep it constantly tight as you go down. As soon as you get down, you loosen it, the knot unravels, and then pull the rope down to yourself.

It would be nice if he properly (or better) explained how to make the knot :)
