He's already done about twice as many shows as Les. (And according to his twitter is going out soon to film next season)

You don't have to kill yourself every episode like Les did. It's about showing how to survive... you don't NEED to actually survive to show it. It's nice to provide a real element to it, but it's not necessary. It's also a huge burden on your body. Losing and gaining all that weight for a 1-hour tv show is just not worth it.

And his camera crew rarely helps him, he more often than not helps the camera crew :)

How would it be humanly possible to shoot a show like that on your own. Yes Surviorman does it, but it also looks and sounds like one guy shoots it.

I think part of it might be what you mentioned, the emergency thing, but I think an even bigger part is just the issue of morale. It's easier to be more upbeat about the shoot if after the camera cuts, you get to sit around the fire with the crew, laughing and drinking tea. People get down on Les for not being very energetic, but sitting for a week in the rain with no human contact will do that.
