stupid question how did he get his rope back

I've never went climbing before but in s02e06 he uses a rope to get down a 150ft cliff but in next scene it's on his back again. Is there some way to release the rope once your down am assuming you can't pull it with force as it had to hold your entire weigh when you climbing down.

I always assumed in that type of situation you just leave the rope behind as there is nobody on top to untie it.

He usually anchors the rope at the half way point and climbs down holding both sides of the rope, it's okay so long as your rope is twice the length of the drop.

He did some sort of holding pin on climb in the US and a suicide knot in Ireland.
