What's with the India shown in this one?

Caught this movie on Netflix mostly because I wanted to see how they'd portray India. I hoped that it would be a positive portrayal for once because the story is about Liz coming to India to find meaning in her love, to Pray so to speak. But it disappointed me. This turned out to be just one more of those Hollywood movies where the camera loves the filth, the urchins, the garbage dumps of India and so on. The myopic writers know nothing more about India than the fact that elephants roam the streets (they do not) and that youngsters are forced into arranged marriages (a large number of them are not).

It is time to stop these stereotypes. There is a lot more to discover about all countries in general and showing the same things over and over again does not help.

It's been 20 years since I've been in India but it was bloody filthy then. I was there travelling around for 5 months, mainly in the southern states and though the land was beautiful is was also very dirty and the street children were noticeable in the cities. As a westerner these were the things I noticed (in no way is the West perfect) Though I agree I didn't see a single elephant roaming the street only cows.I'm more familiar with Italy and they portrayed Italy inaccurately, too.
