Why didn't L wear a mask?Spoilers

Maybe it's because I just watched Darker than Black again, but why didn't L wear a mask when working with Light and the others? The name wouldn't have really mattered then, since Light would never have actually seen L's face.

I'm making my way through the anime a second time after it's been a while, so I don't remember the exact details of L's death(the other death god gave light his name, right? Or did she kill him outright?). But seriously, throw a mask on and make SURE 'Kira' couldn't kill you.

It wouldn't have made any difference as Light came to a deal with Rem who could see L's real name.

Wouldn't Rem have needed to see L's face too? She had it easy, she could SEE the name, but I thought the shinigami needed to see the face as well.

Unless Rem watched over him 24x7 for him to take it off when he was alone, she wouldn't have seen his face and maybe COULDN'T have killed him.

Not sure if it was mentioned in volume 13 if the shinigami needed the face as well.

no shinigami gods don't need to see a face or a name. they already know that stuff. their job is to kill people when the time comes and faces or names don't matter. Nothing prevents from dying in that matter

Ok, I have to look that up. They use those portals to look into the human realm so they can see the humans' faces, names and remaining lifespans. Never saw anything that said they didn't need the face - if that's in volume 13: How to Read book in the manga, a page number (or general location of this fact/assertion) would be really helpful.

Shinigami need the faces of the people they kill.

Misa had the same powers as a Shinigami because she had the eyes which gave the name and lifespan of the person they want to kill.

Also, Rem killed L outright right after killing Watari. Light was only responsible for manipulating the situation where Rem had to kill both to save Misa's life which is why Rem died afterwords.

I'm pretty sure the face thing was for writing in the book. Write the name and picture their face.
