Do you think that L was superior to Mello or Near? I think so, however L's weakness was Light himself.

I think there was gay undertones to their relationship. It was made obvious by the last scene of L on the series where they speak on the rain and L wipes Kira's feets (and so does Kira wipes L's face).

So... do you think L's vision of Light (being Kira) was clouded by his feelings towards him?

And Light was also struck by L in the same way I think. It wasnt the same for Light's thrill being chased by Near, or fooling his own task force.

If you read John 13:1-17 in the Bible you can see that Jesus knew the hour of his death was near (as L knew he would soon meet his demise). Jesus washed the disciples feet.
L knew he was about to be betrayed.
Of course, this is only my opinion.

I read earlier that many believe the significance of the apple(s) that Ryuk loves to eat is similar to the forbidden fruit of the Bible.

I see you posted this on Christmas. But ignored the Christian reference of L 'washing' Kira's feet as Jesus did for Judas. He went on to talk of their coming separation. L knew he was about to die because of Kira, and acted accordingly.
