Light's a DBAG. (Spoilers, though all of these posts kind of are)

That book corrupted Light. It was portrayed as intoxicating, evidenced by his transformation after his first two kills and his night and day transformation after regaining possession of the Death Note.

He wasn't a hero of any sort. He was an awesome serial killer that rattled the entire world without giving up half his life (in retrospect, he might have lived longer if he had, LULZ). Killing people is wrong, trials exist for a reason. The guy didn't do research past watching news reports for suspects and then killing them. No trial, no nothing. I mean he even went to the internet for some of this stuff. How reliable is that? Justice cannot be carried out without due process to ensure innocents aren't killed.

L was a dbag too, for going Guantanamo on them. But in the end L was better. He was prepared to die and had set up his successors in that event. I'd venture to say he purposely didn't name a successor. His death wasn't shocking in that he often mentioned he could die. His demeanor seemed like he knew it was coming. If someone like L thinks he's going to die, he sets up things to be ready and picks a successor. But he didn't. He wanted both M and N ready to go, squabble and bring him down together. So they did.

On a side note: wtf was up with LMN's eyes. Coffee overuse?

Yeah, I can't believe it that some people see Light as a hero, how he was doing a right thing.

That makes me sick.

He was basically a judge, jury and an executioner. He saw himself as a god, he even went totally insane in the end. He even killed innocent people just so wouldn't get caught, he was manipulative.

That's a great hero folks.

He was even killing purse snatchers. Don't get me started on people who were possibly wrongly accused, if a person steals just because he's poor and desperate and needs to feed his/her family etc.

How is a world ruled by fear good?

There has been debate about whether the book actually corrupted him. It's an interesting discussion.

I think the arrogance was there from the beginning. The book just gave him the power to express it, and do what he wills. Arrogance and power is a dangerous combination, as we saw in this show.

I suspect he was a jerk long before ever putting his hand on the notebook. However, what he intended was principally a good thing. He simply chose wrong means.

Killing petty criminals doesn't really help to make the world any better, as the existence of petty criminals is merely a symptom - and curing the symptom doesn't cure the illness. We have a saying here: "When sweeping a staircase, you need to start from the topmost step."

Here's how to use Death Note to make a better world... in a proper way:
1) Gather the names and likenesses of all the major politicians and businessmen suspected of corruption (which means, let's face it, pretty much every single one of them).
2) Use the notebook to force them to reveal the identity of their corruptors and to publicly confess their crimes.
3) Kill off the corruptors as well (after forcing them to reveal their co-conspirators).
4) Repeat the process until you get to the root of the whole mess.
5) With nobody left to manipulate the public, enjoy being witness to first truly democratic elections in the history of the world.
6) Let the newly elected officials know you WILL be watching their steps closely. ;-)

Light was the hero.

I wish idiots could see that.

Criminals regardless of circumstances deserve death. Nothing more, nothing less. They had a choice on committing their crimes, and they chose to act on them, thus forfeiting the right to live.

Also if you read the Magna, he looked into all the people he killed, he even mentions it in the show when he kills that sex criminal in Episode 5 when he confronts Ray Pember.

He only killed the FBI and Naomi because they were pursuing Kira. If they would have stayed out of it just like L should have, they would not have died.

The world needs this kind of cleaning up. Look at the many cases where the justice system fails, Casey Anthony, Vince Li, Guy Tourcotte, it's going to fail again with Jodi Arias I can sense that already. Time and time again, these pieces of filth escape justice, but with the Death Note they would not have.

Just like the corrupt politicians that keep getting away with their crimes, and the many other corrupt people. All of them need to be deleted.

lol I cant tell if your trolling or not. So he kills FBI and Naomi and he is still a hero. LOL

reply

I think Light's heart was in the right place, but i think what messed him was that he was trying to be the god of the new world.

reply

lol he is a nutter. Would even kill off his own family to reach his goals.

reply

Agreed. You also see the difference between Light with the Death note and Light without it in that way that he uses Misa, yet after he gives up possession of it for a while, he refuses to use her feelings for him against her, and when he regains the death note he manipulates her again. I also think killing someone for crime without knowing every small detail of what happened is not right seeing as without very thorough investigation one might miss something that shows a persons innocence. Guilty or not, I still have a problem with killing people thpugh...
I feel no person has the right to judge another worthy of death penalty.

That is what makes you weak.

Light took things too far.

It's not Light that I view as right it was his actions on ridding the world of criminals which I view as the right thing.

Criminals deserve death, you always have a choice in life and if people make the wrong choice they gave the right to live.

I have seen several times people getting away with their crimes because the justice system is broken. Casey Anthony, George Zimmerman, those cops who beat that homeless man to death, all of them were acquitted and in every case the jury was wrong. If Kira existed these guilty people would have been given the punishment they deserve.

reply

True. You see my only problem is that I do not know what happened truely when a crime is committed. I know only what I can find proof of and assume and so forth.I do understand that in some cases the truth is easily found, my problem lies with the other few cases. (Btw do excuse of I offend you, I do not mean to. I just feel that people often judge too fast or without enough reason.) Yes I'm weak. I know, been told so before and I know that of myself. Funny thing though I do judo but I hate hurting people yet sometimes some people really ask for it. Sorry for that little rant....
Wow that was a bit off track... ah well we could argue about this but where's the sense it that? We all have different opinions. And everything depends on situation and people involved. I would love to be able to say I would burn the death note if it was me, but I don't know. The single most wrong thing Light did (in my opinion) was killing those who tried to catch him, though I do understand that it is a survival move and once more I don't know if I wouldn't have done the same. So many possibilities and I suppose that's what made Death Note so very interesting to me.

=D Hope I haven't offended you in any way, Death Note is an excellent story!

reply

Woops that first reply went a bit off the track. What I meant to say was yes the world should be rid of criminals, the problem: deviding the criminals from the rest. The thing that makes this so difficult, Iin my opinion, is humans being all corrupt to some degree, some more some less. And there is not only black or white with us there's grey which makes things so much more complex. I suppose it would be so much easier if we were all the same to say exactly what is right and what is wrong, but that is easier with more obvious crimes, and I agree many people do escape the justice they deserve, but many also are victims of a incorrect judgment. As I said before I think the problem lies with the bit of corruption which is part of human nature.

=D Once again, hope I do not offend, I respect your opinion and understand your reasons.

This show reminds me of the following episode in a series:

Light, in his heart, had good intentions but he took them to an extreme.

reply

They were both *beep* L was smarter and light just had the supernatural drop, something L didn't expect, until too late. It was really stupid how he kept light around knowing there's a good chance he's "Kira"

reply

L, Near, and Mello weren't much better than Light.
