I don't know how people can claim to love this, but hate the second half. I was rooting for Light in the storyline, at times I thought L was right, but I really wanted Light to win, so while LS death was shocking, it wasn't the end of the series. And the new characters weren't that different from Light, and still pretty good characters, they weren't completely awful.

I loved this series from start to finish, and when I watched this last year, I wasn't an anime fan, I've never seen one before.

Same. I dont get why everybody is hating on the second half. Its still really good, just not AS good as the first half.

I didn't hate it, but I do think they could have stopped after Ls death. Not many shows let the "bad" guy win and this was close to being one.

The continuation totally obliterated whatever character Light had left, which in some ways turned the anime into a tragedy. You see what Light could have been without the notebook: a good guy. Then you see Light at the end where he's willing to use and kill absolutely everyone around him.

I like to think that this was what Ryuk hoped for from the beginning. He gave a good person the means to change the world, but told him from the very beginning that he would lose his soul (essentially). The Death Note corrupted Light from the moment he used it. Kind of sad.
