Candles sounds like a rip-off of The Chase!

ditto ... this sounds like a rip-off of a British drama series entitled The Chase, set in & around a veterinary practice. Same plot basically.

That movie did not have a single mother dying of cancer.

This movie was based on a book published in 2000 so, if anything, The Chase was the rip-off.
