I could shot a movie and call it The Godfather IV? with no copyrights?

I was wondering if USA movie laws allow anyone to make a sequel about any movie, even if there is any relation with the previous one. take this for example: they cast a bunch of model "actors" who did a terrible job, none of the original cast return, the plot makes no sense, the directing is awful and half of the scenes have no connection with the movie. You can just make a trash movie and name it whatever you want? there is no copyright infrigments?

They did get the rights, probably from the original production company. Otherwise, no, they couldn't call it that.

And, no, you couldn't release a movie and call it Godfather IV. You'd get sued so fast your head would spin.
