Less Than Zero 2

Seriously do not get the hate-but then I like the Less Than Zero film...

The script is awful and even less engaging than The Informers...the drama just seems like something out of an afterschool special. I love the look of that movie, though. Also, the synth score is amazing, but the songs in the movie are totally not like the punk (X, Fear) and new wave tunes referenced in the book.

If I could remake this movie I'd probably have it shot and lit in a less glossy/crisp style and try to make it look more like Angel or Avenging Angel or Savage Streets. Some great songs to use would be "This Town" by the Go Gos or, duh, "Los Angeles" by X.

Although I think that many of BEE's novels are seminal and truly engaging on many levels (altough couldn't get into Glamorama for some reason), I actually do like the all the movie adapations that most cannot stand and strangely do have a major fondness for the Less Than Zero movie. I know its glib and not very deep but I loved it as when it came out and still watch it about twice a year! I think Mcarthy,Downey and Gertz are wonderful as is the whole look and pace. However it Thomas Newmans synth soundtrack that holds it all together, its sublime and due to it never being released anywhereI did download it (one of only 3 pseudo-illegal downloads I have done!). The point in regard to The Informers movie is that for me it has a similar look and 80's feel hence me quite enjoying it and thinking asthetically at least and in its attempt at being 80's it worked. Shame about the vampire storyline being omitted but I understand why...I also do not understand why The Informers movie is AS hated as it is. Many of the performances are very good and very understated.
