I think the more pressing issue would be the fact that Kim Basinger is far too female for Austin Nichols. And since older women are actually less feminine than younger women, her age actually played in favor of her being a (slightly) more appropriate match for his personal tastes.
Really juvenile assumptions from both of you. You think older women are less feminine than younger women, you're just displaying your ignorance. I wonder what you actually mean by 'feminine'.
Are we talking about the characters or the actual actors playing them? In the film, Martin(Austin), definately has a penchant for the male form, but that's not his preference in real life.
There are younger men like Martin getting with older women like Laura (Basinger) all the time, especially if the woman has money and they are as good-looking as a Kim Basinger.
Yes, what do you mean by "too old"? If you meant that a 55 year old woman (Bassinger's age) is too old for a woman to realistically be hiring a male prostitute to service them I would tend to agree, although I'm sure there are exceptions.
But I don't believe Bassinger actually "looks" her 55 years, and could easily pass for a cougarish 40+ in the MILF category.
And if you're claiming her character was too old for Austin Nichol's character Martin, then that's simply absurd. Part of a gigolo's job description is being capable of servicing wealthy older women who might be too old and/or fat with their best days far behind them. Bassinger doesn't come close to fitting that description, and if anything, is too hot (not old!) to be needing to hire a male hooker.
