any possible analogy with the band?

the singer super star from "the informers" does quiet match the typical super star from the 80s. do any of you think there is a comparision possible, a certain analogy in between with any specific band?
the guy seems to be flying from the UK at the beginning of the movie and he asks his manager if he ever lived in that city "L.A"
their music is kind of dark, some sort of post punk or dark wave rock also.

Possible candidates may include:
The sisters of mercy
The mission
The cult
The chameleons
The cure???

Anyway. what you guys think?

you're wrong, jackrabbitslim, in first place Billy Idol's first band was called Generation X (not X! X is a punk-a-billy group from San Francisco that came out later than Generation X) second Generation X sounds like The Clash,Lurkers or Buzzcocks, it was a 77 Punk Rock band, not a dark post-punk new wave band, and third Bryan Metro is spot on on Bryan Ferry, the name, the looks, everything, but "The Informers" sounds more like Bauhaus or Sisters of Mercy, so the movie ficticious band was like if Bryan Ferry was singing for Bauhaus or smtg...
