Was Rourke good in it?
I havent seen the movie yet. Basically the only reason i want to see it is because of Mickey Rourke. After watching The Wrestler, I became a fan of his. So how is his acting in this?

shareHe's perfectly fine so far as it goes. The problem is he has absolutely nothing to work with. His character in the book is cool, as is Brad Renfro's character, who Rourke is paired opposite against. But the Director completely gutted both their characters in the film and watered down their storyline to the point where you wonder why they even included it. This movie has one of the greatest casts of any film I've seen in forever, but they are completely wasted.

Big fan of both Rourke and Renfro. Seemed very out of place with the rest of the story. I think they perform as great as they're allowed. share
There was no reason to have their parts in movie the way it was. It had nothing to do with anything in source to other characters. Even Brad's characters hotel talk about his acting with Graham seemed tacked on to try and fit in with A character. Complete waste of those 2 actors and roles put in. The movie sucked hard core!

If you have become a fan of Mickey Rourke, I hope you have gone back and seen his earlier films. Essential viewing is Diner, Barfly and Angel Heart, he has been in alot of other really good movies but those are 3 of my favourites.
It was a pity he didn't meet Kim Basinger in this film. They could have remembered good old times!
shareHow is his acting? Mickey always good. He's brilliant as always but film sucks surely. Although for that, as a fan of Mickey Rourke, you should see that. He was one of the few things to watch at this movie.
shareMickeys role was so minimal its hard to figure out why he took this part. Renfro is given more to work with, but thier whole little story is really thin.
Im glad mickeys getting new fans, but if you want to see his best work you'll still have to refer to his 80s work (Angel Heart, Year Of The Dragon, Barfly).
If you still want to see more of his recent stuff, Sin City and Killshot are ok.
other great mickey rourke movies include Rumble Fish, Year of the Dragon, Spun and the Pope of Greenwich Village.
shareHe was good to the extent his role allowed.
Although, his character is a totally despicable human being, he delivered well.
He's average in this, it doesn't really feel any different to some of his other recent performances, grizzled but cool middle-aged hardman with unusual dress sense. I mean he was great in The Wrestler, but like a lot of actors he's done films where he just has to show up and be himself (Domino, Stormbreaker)
He doesn't get the screen time to really take his performance anywhere (like the other stars in this film). There's better Mickey Rourke films to watch, particularly Sin City, have you seen that yet, OP? I should watch Angel Heart sometime.
Angel heart and Sin City are both classics.
Metal forever.............
Diner, Rumble Fish, The Pope of Greenwich Village, Year of the Dragon, 9 1/2 Weeks, Angel Heart, Barfly, Johnny Handsome, Animal Factory, Sin City, and The Wrestler are all great Rourke performances.
Even the underrated "White Sands" is pretty good.
