Despicable.

I just came off the Movie 43 board, where everybody is slamming that movie left and right calling it the "worst thing they've ever seen." Clearly they haven't seen a lot of movies.

This movie is despicable, not because of the writer or director or cast involved, but because stuff like this really happened. All the characters and the circumstances surrounding them are abominable. I'm not trying to say this is the worst movie ever, but it definitely depicts something that is hard to watch or even get into. I hardly feel any sympathy for any of the characters, when they're all acting like rich, privileged snobs.

I did enjoy the soundtrack, though.

Acting? What way, Ray-Ray?

yeah, that's the idea. The film doesn't deal with characters that are easily likable, or easily related to by most people. Personally i can understand this scene because I grew up around people like this. not every movie is gonna make you feel good. But be more accurate in your criticism; the characters are despicable, but the film is not. It's quite an insightful movie, and an accurate look at a world that some people might not see otherwise. And I can tell you, it was a disturbingly authentic depiction of that scene. somebody did their homework..

I'll have to watch this again. Some things are very realistic, but I recall the Mickey Rourke-Brad Renfro plot thread being pretty damn preposterous.

I agree that despicable characters don't add up to a despicable movie, but when there are no recognizable human beings in a movie, it IS kind of alienating. This movie didn't quite go that far though.

I thought the end of this was really great, even though it was REALLY bleak.

Different films will resonate with different people. Characters in a movie like this will be very recognizable.. to people who have grown up in that kind of life, one of money or privilege. Living among these kind of people, I recognized quite a few of them in friends and peers. Now if I watched a movie about for instance, baseball, i doubt i would relate to any of the characters. I never was really into playing baseball, or watching it. and I never had friends who followed the sport either. So those characters would seem just as 'alien' to me..
