1983?

The settings and fashions in this film, look more like they belong to the year 1993, than 1983. I noticed this, speaking as someone who was alive and kicking back then, but I wasn't a spoiled rich brat with a drug habit. And where were the massive spectacles (not Ray Bans) that people used to wear?

Compare this film, with the fashions in movies like Flashdance, and even Scarface - Both released in 1983.

Women with thick straight hair is more of a 90's thing.

Says who?

1983 was BIG hair, shoulder pads, aerobics with spandex wear in and out of the gym.

They had some of the look of the 80´s but I was thinking it looked more early 90´s.
When aids hit the world, all the fun stuff stopped and everything became boring.
80´s music sucked.

Ray-Bans are an 80's staple; every rich kid had a pair. movies like "Flashdance" and "Scarface" dealt with a different class of people; strippers, welders, immigrant gangsters. you know, tacky people. The truth is expensive designer clothing didn't look so "80's," and these people were what we call now the '1 percent.' They wore a lot of Polo shirts and khakis, which were in fashion then as well as now. Expensive clothing is usually more classic, and less trendy. The hairstyles were 80's style, but just not so extreme. Remember these were the kids of wealthy film producers, not street hookers. Obviously these girls wouldn't be sporting that huge hair; not unless they were from the Valley, and they clearly weren't..they were being groomed to be the wives of Senators and plastic surgeons, and they weren't hanging out at the mall..

Ooh! Well, big hair and loud clothing are not the preserve of the working classes, or criminals, or welders. The so-called classy people were pretty tacky in the movie; Sleeping around and doing drugs, and treating each other like real 5hit! Hardly people to look up to. At least Scarface didn't pretend to be nice.

My point is, the film didn't really convey how very different 1983 looked. Perhaps the budget didn't allow this. I know from experience by looking back on old photos, how the fashions and hairstyles just smack me in the face with sheer shock!

To be fair to you though, the fashions in this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXBpETLXKwo don't look much different than today's.

I was alive and kicking back then too and I only saw massive spectacles on characters portrayed in movies, TV shows, and music videos. Ray Bans were actually worn by lots of people including myself, well I wore Ray Ban knock-offs but still.
