I don't know if it's because it was too short but when the credits rolled, I thought it was a joke. I really liked the movie but the way it ended bothered me.

The business partner was his daughter, rose. Hence the Lekowski FAMILY cleaning and the scene in which rose and the father are decked out in cleaning outfits.

It's a good theory but I think Grandpa was actually speaking in the 'royal we' speak - in otherwords, the business partner he was referring to was his daughter. He wanted her to quit being a maid and go back to the biohazard removal business (with his financial and physical assistance).
They now have the advantage of industry knowledge. Van, materials, insurance, certification, etc ...
No, that would have been cheesy. I like how it hinted at potential but they never got together that we saw (they probably would have).
shareI really felt the writer(s) did not want this movie to take the easy road. For those two to build a relationship would have been cliche, and sorry to say, with his one arm, awkward. Regardless of her station in life, Rose is a very pretty girl, and Winston would have have to come up with a lot of screen time and charm to win that girl over.
I just don't think they wanted to go the sappy, easy route of people finding love, cue the credits. They still could hook up in the future.
I'm not a woman much less Deanna Durbin, but the old-time glam-shot appeals to me.
Yeah, I wanted to see her get her real estate license too. =)
shareThe real estate license diversion was all about her trying to pursue a profession other people would view more favorably than her current one, not something she truly yearned for. Her high school friend who was a realtor was not exactly shown in a favorable light; more of a phony.
I could feel the movie was wrapping up and I didn't feel like there were any loose ends, but yes, it was a short movie.

It was yet another example of a movie that did not end, it just stopped. The writer made you care about the characters and then failed to resolve anything. Call it Catharsis Interruptus.
shareJust because I, like some others too apparently, thought this movie ended abruptly does not mean you need to make it seem like you are "sophisticated" for liking the ending, and we are therefore "unsophisticated" for not. I am not saying you are wrong for liking the ending, but in my opinion Norah going on a road trip, Rose and her father just beginning their cleaning service and oscar staring at a girl with binoculars is not really a complete ending. I am not saying I disliked it, just that there was room for about 15 minutes of resolution. Its not about "O I wanted it to be a perfect wrapped up fairy tale with a bow tied on top".

The ending was fast, kind of wrapped everything up in a couple of minutes. I liked it though.
shareI thought the ending was fine, and generally appreciate when movies wrap things up fairly quickly. 15 minutes too short is a hell of a lot better than 15 minutes too long. The sisters reconciled, Rose found a man who wants to be with her, and she has a job she can be proud of and wants to do. She never wanted the real estate license - that was something the thought she should do but not something she ever really wanted to do or was excited about...at least that was my take on things.

Norah goes on her road trip.
I was really hoping the reason for Norah's road trip was to take Lynn for a ride across the country so they could get to know each other better.
According to Mary Lynn Rajskub, there were some Norah/Lynn scenes left on the cutting room floor.

This is very weird. I just finished watching the movie and had a conversation with myself saying "that could have been a masterpiece had it not been missing about 10-15 minutes... even 20" It was interesting to see others post the same thing I thought.
I got the symbolism but when the house caught on fire... I went "here we go... a cop-out" and I was buying into the movie before it pulled that stunt.... but the stunt could have been kept and worked had film had a stronger impression holding ending. (However, the pecan pie/cb radio bits were pretty poignant)... Emily Blunt is terrific here.

I think it worked out better as it did... it was still pretty neat and tidy and left the possibility that winston and rose would become more..
It was good... although I would have liked to see something more between Norah and Lynn (and I don't mean in a freaky hollywood lesbo way)

I felt like there was something more that needed to be shown between Rose and Winston. I didn't get the attraction at all. Also how is her aging father going to help her with cleaning? And how is she a heroine if he rescued her? She should have rescued herself and not went back to the old cleaning business after the house burned.

I think its good that the father 'rescued' her, she'd spent her whole life fixing everything and taking care of herself and her sister...being taken care of is EXACTLY what she needed.
Me too! I would have been satisfied with less than that actually, but that would have been nice. It's just that Clifton Collins Jr barely gets any kind of romantic action in films. I can only recall one time actually.
Other than that, I do agree it felt abrupt and like they rapped it up in a few minutes.
The only thing I was really left wondering about as the credits started rolling was Norah and her friend, but I just assumed later that the relationship was over, of course. The scene in the restaurant where Norah's friend says not to call her seemed like it was leaving the relationship up in the air, perhaps to be resolved towards the end, but I suppose that's just how some things end.
