The most ridiculous thing about this movie.

I don't particularly think it's bad. It's not the greatest thing ever, but it kept me entertained and that's more than I can say for a lot of movies. However, it has a lot of flaws, some easy to ignore but one in particular kept bugging me:

Luke Ford looks too damn old to be Brendan Fraser's son! After looking up their ages in IMDB I see they only have a 13 years difference (Fraser would've had to father this kid at the age of 13). It'd be fine if the actor looked younger but he really doesn't; or if Fraser looked older, but he actually looks great in the movie. Really bad casting, I'd say...

I think Alex should've been more a 18-20 year old. Not a 27 year old who looks 35 when his father is a 40 year old.

Anyone else agree? Any other thing that really bothered people here?

Yeah...

Luke Ford was too old to play the role. They should have kept the boy from Mummy Returns... As he was already established as Alex.

You're forgetting the time skip between the first two movies, and the unclear amount of time between the second and third.

#1: Fraser is 30.
#2: Released two years later, there's 9-ish year time skip due to Rick and Evey's 8 year old son.
#3: Released seven years later, the kid is now played by a 27 year old. No idea how old the character actually is, but he's in his 20's somewhere. Fraser aged nine years, his character has aged 25-ish.

Not giving Fraser any age makeup is the problem, not Luke Ford. Rick should be in his mid-50's by the time of the third movie.

Why should Brendan Fraser wear aging makeup to accommidate another actor ? Luke Ford was a dud and the character of Alex should have been eighteen at the most. Freddie Boathe is still acting and should have gotten the call.

I completely agree. Luke Ford was a dud and complete miscast.

Besides what you mentioned.

I liked the yeti's, what i didn't like is making them comical, like doing field goal signs and stuff, if they just had them as brutes that smashed and gored, that would of sat fine for me, but all the comical crap they did just ruined it for me.

i also enjoyed the movie besides what you and i mentioned.

The character is supposed to be 21 or so, I would think the character should have been 18 or 19. I agree with you that Luke looks far too old to play a 21 year old.

Also, I hated that they wrote into this one that Alex and his dad are at odds. That just doesn't go with what we know. The kid idolized his dad. The adult Alex is not fun. There's no humor about him. And there no charisma at all between the characters, there's no spark or sparkle in their eyes.

It all looks to much like work. The effects were great, and I have no problem with it being set in China, but the O'connoll's are just not a family in this one.

I really blame it on the casting for this one.

And I completely agree with you ! Cheers.

the american honor, too realistic, in such fantacy they should lie, but no they had to be realistic (spoiler) branden challenge the emporer in the name of honor, the empror accept and do not use his special power, branden's son come from behind and attack the emporer! so much for americam honor! just like what they did with saddam and ben laden.

we all know that the mummy is just another indiana jones but they did so good, as good as the original, even spealberg can't do it as good any more, but in this movie the movie almost copied the indian'a temple of doom in the first half, just a little too much.

What I couldn't stand were the CGI monsters. A dragon with THREE HEADS? ORCS? Didn't they do homework? All they had to do was google "Chinese mythological creatures" and thousands of pictures would show up. They could have just grabbed anything. It wouldn't even be copyright because the creatures are described in great detail in history books. Real Chinese dragons, phoenixes, white tigers, kirin, taotie, or any of the dragon's nine sons!! Instead, they went all middle earth? Can Hollywood be any lazier?

You've got a good point, mdx. I wondered if perhaps they were catering to their audience too much, and went with images that would ring with then-current references, but it's still a missed opportunity.

I thought the actual CGI work was pretty darned impressive, but the creature design itself left a bit to be desired, and as you point out it didn't live up to the context of the story.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.
