Even though the bad script couldn't possibly get any worse but.....

There's definitely a few things that did not help this movie at all:

1) The wife = If they couldn't get Rachel Weisz to reprise her role (Which I can't blame her for not doing so), why get another celebrity to play the character? I mean in the first 2 movies, her character at least was important to play a role in. But her character was somewhat useless in the 3rd one.

Granted, the same can be said to the John's role, but at least he brought in some comedic effect to the movies.

But nevertheless, I just don't get why her character was even in this movie. I've really only seen this movie once in theaters because my bud wanted to check it out, which I regretted immediately mind you, so I don't really remember anything important her character had done.

2) Alex (the Son) = Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he around 8 in the 2nd movie? How in the bloody hell did he even get that old without Fraser looking much older or even aging that much?

Alex looked like he was in his mid to late 20's in this movie, so that means ROUGHLY a couple decades had passed. I'm sorry but I don't care whether if it's genetics or whatever, he does not look young enough to still be a teenager in this movie nor a guy in his early 20's. But yet Fraser's appearance hasn't changed much?!? Really?!?! How can that be?!

25 years old = barely passable, but definitely not early 20's. Fraser looks like he only aged a few years in this movie, sooooo...... Not saying he's a bad actor or anything, but major miscast there due to appearance.

3) Yetis = My brain wanted to blow up when they just suddenly showed up..... followed by a major facepalm.... Don't get me wrong, I like yetis (A LOT) but it just doesn't feel like a good fit for this kind of storylines. Or at least it shouldn't.

I didn't mind the yetis that much. But you are spot on with everything you said.

Dont forget...it even was "kung fu" Yetis  this movie is soooo bad in every way...even the CGI is some of the worst CGI ever made 

That would at least be interesting 

The father was wounded. Who would bring him to the magic well? They had so many options to go from there. How about a clan of warriors helping the good witch? No, that trope is overused. Lets bring in...Yetis.

They really planned this on a white board. They seemingly had financing support from Chinese companies, so they had to have a Chinese mummy. They had to have Jet Li and the wonderfully wasted Michelle Yeoh. And then the throw so much Gold on Bello that she took the job, even she was clearly way to nervous and trying to much. Only in the emotional scenes on the mountain top she filled her role. She wasn't used to be a brunette ;^p - and in a 100 million movie.

The script was by Millar and Gough, who made Smallville. And it shows. All the family stuff was forced in there, the over the top action and plot "holes" as big as a Himalayan mountain (for example: why not add some explosives to the rope bridge? They didn't bring any rope to cross that canyon).

And in no way Brendan would have won a fist fight against Jet Li. I rather have expected that the mummy General had the last blow, instead of this father-son nonsense.

If the go for a full reboot with Kurtzman/Spaihts (who help write the so-so Prometheus), then I'm all for it.

reply

Don't blame Prometheus on Spaihts. Blame Prometheus on Lindelof and Scott.

Not sure if you've seen Brendan Fraser, but he hasn't aged much since 1999. This film takes place after WW2, and since they mention he's been in and out of a couple colleges, we can assume that it has been 13-14 years since The Mummy Returns. So Fraser has aged 13 years in the film as opposed to 8 in real life. Not outrageous.
