did ANYONE buy Andrew's "live here" proposition?
I never did, and so never took seriously any of the gay-"romance" dialogue between the two. I only waited for the other shoe to drop - and assumed it would be Andrew who dropped it.
But no, Milo broke the spell, not Andrew. "Nope, not really interested in you. Bye!"
So... we were supposed to think that Andrew was... sincere? That Andrew desired Milo? I had to think about it for 10 minutes before I even entertained this interpretation, and it's the only one that sort of made sense - but which, frankly, I feel was ruled out entirely by the subtext. No change in demeanor, no sense of either one letting his guard down - just one minute a staredown, the next - romance?
I suppose the "I'm glad that you like my mind" dialog was MEANT to be the seismic shift in the situation - but it was such a strange thing to say that I took it for another taunt.
So many MINOR changes would have made it work - at least SOMEWHAT. Imagine if - JUST ONCE - Milo had scoffed at Andrew's proposition. Consider this hypothetical dialog:
MILO: "Ha! Yeah! I'd sleep SO well in your guest bedroom, wondering when I'd wake to find you mashing a pillow into my face. Do you think I'm an idiot? Is that really the best you've got?"
ANDREW: "Milo - I'm completely serious. I've never met anyone like you before..."
Let the audience's skepticism be aired, at least for a moment, then responded to - and it might have at least sort-of worked.
Oh well.
