NA 86 was better IMHO

Ok, I kow that this will not be a popular opinion, but having just watched NA 07 followed by a hasty DVD rental of NA 86, i have to say that NA 86 was better. From the music to the romantic ending where you are not sure at first if it it another fantasy or not, Peter Firth and Katherine Schlenger (sorry about spelling) give solid performances. While I enjoyed JJ Feilds and Felicity Jones (and adored Carey Mulligan as Isabella, what a long way she has come from playing Kitty Bennett)it wasn't as entertaining to me as NA 86. What are some of your thoughts about the two adaptations?

I found myself kind of bored throughout the new version also, whereas the 80s adaptation was immensely fun sillyness. :D "Northanger Abbey" is not the most interesting of Austen's narratives to me in and of itself, so I think for that reason a bit of over-the-top cheese and saxophone works oddly well for it. I just found myself feeling nothing watching 2007 (not even amusement)... I did think the lengthier ending was an improvement, but overall I'd take 1986 over 2007 any day.
