Shooting at the guy in his bed

The bad guy and his girlfriend were in his bed. He shot at them from approx. 4 ft. away six or seven times, missing every time. Then the guy got up and ran down the hall where he was shot at 2 or 3 more times. So the bad guy was shot at about nine times, every one of the shots a miss. This is absolutely ridiculous. If you are going to write a screenplay, make the events somewhat believable.

The dad wasn't written to be the sharpest scalpel on the table.

I've seen people at the shooting range unable to hit what they're shooting at and that's an unmoving paper target. Adrenaline, nerves and inexperience would make this possible, if not likely.
We've gotten too used to movies where people hit everything they shoot at.
