Paige's death was very disturbing
Being an avid Horror movie buff, I've seen plenty of scenes involving victims being stabbed to death, including Paige's death in the original 1972 movie. However, none of them have disturbed me me as much as Paige's stabbing in the remake. In the original, she was violently stabbed like 10 times and it was alot bloodier. In the remake, she's stabbed only 3 times and it isn't as bloody, yet it managed to be WAY more disturbing. Yes, it was so, because the cinematography, acting and special FX were vastly superior.
But it wasn't just that, it wasn't just the fact that they stabbed her, it was HOW they stabbed her that troubled me so much. Krug picks Paige up and casually, matter of factly and without warning, stabs her in the stomach. He keeps the knife inside of her, than Francis comes up from behind her and stabs her in the back. Krug and Francis keep both thier knives in her for several moments before pulling them out and letting her fall to the ground, bleeding profusely. Not to sound lewd or vulgar, but it seemed like thier way of stabbing her pocked reference to "Double Penetration." the whole thing had a very sadistic sexual undertone to it that made me very uncomfortable.
One other thing I found unsettling about it was how sensless and unnecessary it was on Francis' part. Krug at least had a reason to do it. Paige called him pathetic, so Krug felt he had to make her pay for that. Francis, had no reason, he just saw his brother doing something that looked like fun, so he decided to get in on the action. Plus, it was made very clear earlier on that he had the hots for Paige. The way he was groping her in the hotel room and even licking her while they were in the car. He probably saw the stabbing as an alternative to banging her. He clearly seemed to be getting sexual pleasure from the act, while for Krug, it was all business.
