My thoughts

I am a christian and believe that abortion is wrong, the only way i think its ok is when the baby is growing in the fallopian tubes and there is the choice for the mother to live or die, i think the mother should live, cuz it would kill her regardless. As for rape, why kill that baby when it could not control the situation and give it to a family that cant have a child, my grandparents tried to convince my mother to abort me and im so glad she decided not too, as a result, im very strong against it, the baby can feel pain just like us and for us to dictate that is just like saying that we can dictate whether a retarted person can feel like we can, who are we to judge that, are we trying to play God here?

I also agree. Abortion is wrong. My father wanted my mom to abort me but she did not, the thing is though shortly after she had me she got pregnant again and decided to abort. She says that when she sees me she would imagine her child she would never meet. Everytime she tells me of this she cries and apologizes to me and to her unborn child. She and I always wonder how he would be now? what would he be doing? would he have graduated college already? would he have kids? She says she is sorry to have taken his life from him, the life that God wanted him to have but due to her blindness and the corrupted way society thinks now, she could not see how much it trully affected many lives. Mine included.
I have walked and believed what the rest of the world believes, I have been of the world and has brought nothing but deception, left me with a wanting. I have tried those bitter waters and after I had enough I decided to taste the waters of life. The Lord does bring a new way of thinking, new hope, new life, you just have to look for him. In the new path I walk, I choose not to go back. Anyway as to not go astray... I have heard of all sorts of excuses for abortion and none are good enough for the unborn children. I having nearly been one.

Reading your thread almost made me cry, one thing I dont understand is how she didnt abort you but she did your sibling, that doesn't make since. And also people dont realize when they have an abortion, it decreases the chances of being able to conceive again and causes many health problems, Ill never understand what monster could have thought up such a thing.

:) well my mom and dad did not love each other, like most cases, they had 2 "accidents". I was first, after she had me she became pregnant again for some reason...with my dad and they were poor, you know how people can make so many mistakes in the world, well this happened before she gave her life to Christ. They were poor and she decided with a newborn baby she could not care for another baby. My dad was a lazy guy and did not work, he still does not know Christ and in his arrogance denies there is a Good God. The irony, I became my fathers favorite child. ME the one he wanted to abort, but he never did apologize. Eh, I dont expect one either.

edit: ya know, mom did not have problems conceiving, (becoming pregnant again 2 times afterwards... very fertile) but she did have MANY health problems.

I hate to bring the other side to the issue, but what if your unborn sibling grew up, rebelled, and instead of living a life with Christ died unrepentant. I'm assuming by your theology he had a soul in the womb. It's also most common for people to believe that children who have not yet "eaten from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil" (become aware of their actions) go to Heaven when they die. So in this case, your unborn sibling is in eternal paradise, in the other case he brings a life of heartache to you and your mother, and then dies and goes to Hell. This is a fully viable option under what I assume is your theology (I could be wrong, but it's the theology of over 95% of self professed "believers.")

reply

I think you are vastly over-estimating the primative, ad hoc belief system stated above by referring to it as "theology." Theology is defined as "the rational and systematic study of religion and its influences and of the nature of religious truth," which at the very least implies formal education and some sense of context in relation to other belief systems.

What most people refer to as "christianity" in the U.S. is just superstitious hillbilly nonsense.

What i don't fully get is the so called Christian angle. Christ never said anything about abortion, do you feel that way because you think God wants you to and you would be defying him if you didn't?

I myself am middle of the road on the issue, before 10 weeks fine - after that - no - except in exceptional circumstances involving medical issues. I see it from more of a human rights angle and include the human rights of both mother and unborn in my considerations but i wouldn't let what men who call themselves preachers or prophets ... say... influence me one way or another. At the end of the day the US and many other countries love to wage war which slaughters many innocents and this does not seem to bother them so i am auto-suspicious of the 'abortion is a holocaust' argument and especially when i see it coming from Bush supporters.

I dont understand what the difference in 10 weeks and 11 weeks is? Why is ok to kill a child if it is a certain age? Thats like saying it is ok to kill the child at 9 months because it hasent exited the mother but its not ok to shoot the kid when it comes out? If you looked at the developement of the baby at 9 months and on the day of birth it wouldent be different...so if you wouldent kill the baby at 9 months, why would you kill it at 10 weeks? Yes it is less developed but its no different. Thats like saying I would kill a 8 year old but not a grown man because its not developed.

I hate that Christians have the throw in the preacher angle, but if you ask me, take religion out of the picture and abortion is still wrong.

reply

Bingo, but don't hate Christians. You're lumping the term "Christian" together and assuming all are the same, thus stereotyping.

reply

insest...pedophilia??? where's your god when this happens? as for rape....you are nuts.

If you are christian you should be against abortion, but atheists or even agnostics dont belive the little thing has a soul anyway and biologicaly it is not even close to anything which resembles a human beeing, it has not creeated a personality or a functioning brain. As science is the truth based on evidence while religion is merely speculation I dont know why we need to be forced to belive in the wild speculation that there is somekind of soul put in the embryo by god right when it enters the belly of the mother, why should we follow the rules of a book we dont even belive in?

Lucky me who lives in atheist Sweden where abortion is allowed until the week when the brain is developed enought to have somekind of functioning brain atleast (18th week I think it is).

Why should atheist americans have to obey the rules of the christian mayority whose only source to be against abortion is a 2000 year old book which tells an illogical fantasy story about this son of god?

This discussion started out just simple and opinionated. You dont have to be a Christian to be believe that abortion is wrong. Its a matter of knowing that every person living today started out like fetuses. The little blobs that people believe aren't worth anything. Yes God created the human race but you dont have to believe in him to know what human life is worth.

What about a womans right to life? She can be raped by her father, get pregnant and then be expected to give birth to the baby & support and love it???

What about the rights of children living with disease and in poverty all over the world, shouldn't we be caring for them before worrying about unborn sacks of cells (not babys until 12 weeks, when the foetus becomes a baby when nerve endings etc are fully formed)

After watching Lake of Fire, I beleive legal termination should happen before 12 weeks and NOT after, but I still support a womans right to choose.

I am a victim of incest, so I can tell you right now if my uncle had gotten me pregnant, I still would have had the baby but given it up for adoption. Who are we to play God and take away life because of douchebags. Science has said that a baby is not a baby until after 24 weeks, but they eventually become a human.

reply

Sorry to hear about you being a victim of incest.
Yes, they _eventually_ become human. Just like jelly [or jello for the Americans] crystals _eventually_ become jelly. You don't eat jelly crystals, do you? No, because jelly crystals are not jelly.

Given it up for adoption? The woman would still have to go through nine months of pregnancy. If she was a young woman, people would stare at her. She may be forced to leave school. She has to GIVE BIRTH to something that she's going to give away. Mothers feel a biological bond with their babies immeaditley [spelling?]

I don't see any pro-life activists helping the seventeen year old and her three year old daughter, do you? I don't see any pro-life people giving her money to pay the rent or buy the food. Pro-life activists want the kid to be born, but they don't seem to care how it grows up.

As for 'experiencing health problems' after an abortion? If it's a botched one [which people will resort to if abortion is illegal], yes. However you're actually more likely to experience a 'health problem' if you have the child: post natal depression

reply

Are you kidding, Sweden only allows abaortion up until the 18th week? WOW--that's just--unprogressive.

The US allows it further. HOwever, it's hard to find clinics that will do the procedure past 3 months.
