yeah i think that's what they were doing - the montage captures everything about them. how they're all mean to brendon, alice, and natalie portman's character and yet feel like they were wronged as well, how their father plays a huge role in their emotions towards one another, the things they came across in this journey, like rita and the funeral etc
in a filmmaking sense, it is also a way of driving narrative without talking, so i suppose wes anderson played on that and explicitly mentioned through his character that this was what they were going to do now - talk to each other about themselves.
