I have always been a Wes fan. I finally got around to watching this movie.
It's brilliant.
I don't get all the hate for it.
I was blown away by it in every sense of the word.
The movie is just so different than anything out there. That isn't the reason why I like it, but it doesn't hurt it either.
It's just so...real. And powerful.

Same here. It's in my list of films I watch again every couple of months. There's something quite magical about it but clearly not for everyone.
shareWes is usually hit or miss for me and this one just didn't do it for me. I was a big fan of Life Aquatic but I just did not get the same whimsical feeling in this film. It was lacking a coherent story and came off as a half hearted attempt to make a quirky movie. The only redeeming qualities of this film was the fact that it was aesthetically pleasing and had a solid supporting cast. Nobody plays an old heartless mother better than Anjelica Houston. Overall there just wasn't enough for me to recommend it to anyone or even watch it again myself. 4/10

Seen it for the first time today, after hoarding the DVD for the last three years on the shelf. Don't know why I never watched it, since I very like all the other Anderson movies.

I'm not the biggest Wes Anderson fan, but his movies are almost always interesting. I thought this movie was amazing, a true work of art, and an example of why a great movie can't be made by a committee, performing focus groups around each character and scene to ensure that it appeals to the widest possible audience, etc.

shareLoved it. Often films that are so whimsical and zany struggle to really engage emotionally but this film has real heart and soul to it - the change in tone after the river scene is really well handled. Plus the soundtrack is fantastic!!
