The 2019 cast had a good choice with Jete Laurence as Ellie. She is a better actress Blaze Berhdal. Jason Clarke is a hit or miss as Louis. I would say the same for Dale Midkiff. Though, Dale Midkiff had better emotional outbursts at appropriate times.

I love John Lithgow but this wasn't his best. It's not the acting, it's the script.

As a remake, this wasn't terrible nor was it an improvement. The original auto accident was so impactful. Zelda was a bigger horror in the original. This one tried, but it isn't as good as the original. It's watchable though.

This remake is missing the doom of the original. The pieces are there, but the deep, deep heartbreak is missing. Once the girl (!) comes back, the movie really loses its way. It’s almost like The Grudge or The Ring, with a creepy little kid running around. What could’ve been primal (like the original) becomes silly.

You’re also right about Zelda, she was far scarier in the original.
