2019 vs 1989 version

my view on the 2019 remake:

PROS
+ more atmospheric
+ mostly better actors, especially the louis character
+ better visual fx (the cat, pascow, zelda)

CONS
- action over suspense
- unbalanced allocation of screetime for the characters (e.g. gage was hardly in the movie)
- unbalanced subplots (too much zelda, too little pascow; the procession was introduced as a new element, but not taken any further)
- bad pacing in general
- less trucks (the road seemed more dangerous in the '89 version)
- does little to fix the issues of the '89 version, such as a believable justification on why jud shows luis the burial ground
- major plot wholes (e.g. a character suddenly appearing in another house!)
- third act subverting the events of the source material / '89, just to provoke suprises, without adding any value or meaning

i didn't think that the '89 film is a masterpiece, but the remake really wasted its potential to make things better.
