an example of how I hate how trailers now give everything away

I've seen the old movie a few times, and I've read the book twice. The kid coming back and wreaking havoc is more like the climax, whereas this movie looks like it'll be almost the whole thing. I feel like the source material gives enough where the trailer could've made it look like it was mostly about the cat. Then, when the kid gets killed, those unfamiliar with the source material would've been likelier to be surprised, and those of us who are familiar with it would've really been knocked around the head. Just bugs me, think how well that would've helped the movie, but no, instead they have to give away the whole thing in the previews nowadays. Of course it's the fault of the marketing departments. The filmmakers have little say in what's shown. I avoid Star Wars trailers like the plague, especially since Rian Johnson told people they should.

Agreed there was no need to put her death/funeral in the trailer, specially for those not familiar with the book or earlier film.

I agree. It's especially egregious, because they try to fake you out in the actual movie and make you think it's the little boy that's about to get hit, only to rescue him at the last second.

Same with Judd's death. They try to fake out people who have seen the original movie with a closeup of his ankle next to the bed, when we already know it happens on the stairs in this movie from seeing the trailer.
