Kids in masks

Okay this is driving me crazy. In the first trailer I was assuming the kids in masks were part of a flashback from Judas childhood. However they pop up in the second trailer and there is even a poster I think with Ellie amongst them standing in the cemetery. Not sure what is going on. If Ellie were the only child we kept seeing in trailers with the mask it would be one thing. I mean it would be strange but I could understand it after all it looks as if she finds a mask on a headstone in the trailer. I would still not choose for her to be wearing the mask but I would see why. I have no idea who the other kids in masks are I am no longer sure they were a part of Judds flashback. Also when you think about it the clothes look too modern. Any thoughts to what is going on?? However I am intrigued with this twist they are giving. Part of me is wondering why they revealed the twist in the second trailer but knowing it's coming has me intrigued.
