Bigger Ernest or Pee-wee fan?
It's a really tough call for me but I would give Ernest a small edge.

I really enjoy them both. I think both are under appreciated for their contributions to children's entertainment, Reubens' in particular, being revolutionary. But, they both have cult followings. Reubens has managed to cross over quite a bit into various other genres and productions, displaying how dynamic his talent is. Varney I think had that same ability, but we really didn't get to see many examples before he passed away. As far as the characters themselves go, I can't pick. I enjoy both for different reasons and both offer a sense of nostalgia for me.
shareI loved both Pee-Wee and Ernest growing up but I think I would have to go with Ernest. Whenever he would impersonate a certain type of person ( like a military man, or an old woman, for example) I always laughed my a** off. His normal self was pretty funny but adding the other personalities just sealed the deal for me. Like I said, I love Pee-Wee, he's definitely unique but for me Ernest shines a little brighter.
shareIDK. "Hey Vern" had been kicking around for years before he got famous. One thing though, The Ernest character was consistent from his early commercials through his movie fame. I remember him in the Brick Church electronics commercials in the late 70's. He was exactly the same until the end
PeeWee evolved quite a bit, to the point he wasn't really the same character.
I think PeeWee is the better, more defined character though.
