The Elephant in the Room

This film has very little to do with the actual Pee Wee we all grew up with. He acted like he'd never left Fairville, but he's clearly been on other big adventures. It's like the writers knew nothing about him. They made a mistake making this film without Tim Burton.

And Fairville... WTH?!

The high school mascot, Fairville SETTLERS- it's subtle but it's hilarious- like much of the movie.

I definitely enjoyed a lot of the subtle humor. But I understand that some people prefer more in your face comedy. This may have not been the movie for them.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

You do realize Paul Reubens(AKA Pee-wee Herman) was one of the writers, right? But no, Tim Burton knows more about Pee-wee Herman than Pee-wee Herman apparently.

The break from continuity was intentional, and so far none of the movies have been connected, and none of them are connected to Pee-wee's Playhouse either.

People keep saying this - but it doesn't make it any better. And I'm pretty sure the puppet master always knows more than the puppet. So agree to disagree on that account.

Tim Burton refused to do any more Pee-Wee movies a long time ago.

reply

Please. No more from Burton.

None of the works in which the character appears is connected. It's just a character who appears in different settings and stories.

Think of it like Charlie Chaplin's "Tramp" character. There's no continuity between incarnations. Every one is a brand new setting and even background.

Comic books do it too. Batman comics of today bear little resemblance or continuity with those of eras past, but it's still Batman. Dead characters return sometimes too.

This is a case where the original writer may know less than the audience. I don't know how to describe it, but it happens often. Often times, a writer will create a show/character and then try and replay old fame in the future and totally fall short. Fans can easily catch these downfalls as you did in your original Post with this latest Pee Wee installment.
