Why all the Jesse hate?

I've seen Jesse's first two sessions and from what I've seen I'm really interested in what lies ahead for his character. Sure, I wouldn't want him as a friend, but his story seems interesting enough so far.
From what I've read here, I learnt that Jesse wasn't really well liked and I'm trying to understand why. (Please don't add any massive spoilers)

A lot of people on these boards complain about certain characters being unlikable... but really, I think these people are missing the point of the program.

Characters like Jesse aren't supposed to be likable in the first place. The goal of the program seems to be to present the neuroses of the various patients realistically, WARTS AND ALL.

I don't think I'd be friends with Jesse in real life, but I have known people whose personality is very much like him. Even though he's not a very likable character, he is a very realistic one.

Hmmm, talk about an impossible task.

For me it's not so much a question as to like and dislike. I would not want him as a friend either, but he is really troubled, and maybe for reasons he has bottled up so tight he, nor Paul can get at, and he is volatile and I think dangerous. The session where he threatened Paul's office really bothered me. I know therapist who told me a story about a colleague that was killed by a patient. When you think of it in those terms, ie. real life scenario, how can you deal with someone like that? How can you "like" someone like that.
