Season 3, Episode 4: Asphalt Shingles

I am sorry, but I have to ask this of my northern neighbors (I'm from Seattle). How common is it to call asphalt, ashphalt? I am more than happy to give you mauve, but ashpalt? I am hoping the narrator is the exception to the rule.

I live in Tacoma, but I'm from Texas. I have never heard anyone say ashphalt.

I didn't speak with a drawl when I moved here, so most people found it hard to believe that I'm from Texas.

A funny aside for someone from Seattle: The first time my mother came to visit, we left the airport and she saw a sign that said "Tukwila" (the city I worked in at the time). She said she had always thought I was saying "Tuck Willow".

Ok... maybe it wasn't that funny even if you are from Seattle.

Actually, your post is spot on. Washington has great names. The most mispronounced is Puyallup.

I was stationed up in Oak Harbor a while back, so I know what you guys are saying about all of the "weird" names around there. I remember watching NASCAR races on TV, and laughing everytime they said Chad Little was from Enumclaw. They never could say it right. I had a buddy whose last name was Buckley, and actually was from Buckley. He was stationed up in Oak Harbor as well. I never did make it to my namesake of Graham, though.
