Great show, but behind the times.

Unless you are printing newspapers in the Congo Jungle, there are newer methods to both printing and packaging newspapers. I work for a newspaper and have for 5 years. We ONLY use a hand insert method if there are too many ads for the grippers to handle (like Thanksgiving & Christmas.)

I've noticed this with a couple of the episodes. I know they can't update every time a method changes slightly, but the standard newspaper inserter machines have been around for years now (about 20 years in our building , the Tennessean.)

It is a fun show nonetheless.

Please remember this show is produced in Quebec, Canada and in all cases, the things they show are currently in use at the businesses they are filming. Sometimes, we in Canada continue to use older technology if its cheaper than newer technology and still works well enough. Also, the episode you may have seen could have been produced as early as 2001. How It's Made has been on in Canada for over 8 years now.

well, technically, in 2007, newspapers are dying. more and more people are getting their news online, so i guess the method being used to print the paper is irrelevent now. but thanks for bringing us all in the loop on current methods.
