Lead Nails?

Season six has an episode describing the manufacturing process of horseshoes. In this episodes you mention that the nails that are used to attach the shoes to the horse are made of lead. This surprised me to the extent that I felt compelled to verify this statement. So far I haven't encountered any mention of lead shoeing nails on any web site that supplies farrier nails. I don't know where your fact checker got this bit of data but I have hard time believing that anyone manufactures a nail made of lead. Lead is too soft and it is toxic.
