You're not just passing for materials you're paying for the designers work, the incredible about of research that goes into the design, and the marketing and advertising. Keeping in mind these aren't high volume selling products like basketball shoes or even dress shoes. So the profit per unit has to be higher. Cheap cycling shoes (under $150) aren't something a cyclist should waste money on.
