If Trek continues to go in the direction JJ Abrams send it in, it might as well be dead. It certainly isn't Trek anymore, it's now some kind of Star Wars wannabe.

No... He wasn't wrong. I would like to see Star Trek rise out of its ashes. JJ's was an entertaining alternate reality version of Star Trek it's not bad. I don't see it being reborn yet.

It was a funny quote though.

oldschool was the best. this new star trek is more mtv trek. its enjoyable but the old series is way better.

I just saw it last night, and that one bad joke really seemed to sum up the whole movie actually. I mean what is this, 2010, and already "The Spirit" is a vague memory on the pop culture radar and "Star Trek" is still going strong. Not only was the joke one of several examples in the film where they strayed from the "period" ideas and dialog for no good reason, but it makes the film itself (as well as Miller, as you point out) look petty or jealous. What was the point of that joke? What was the point of this movie actually?

Did I not love him, Cooch? MY OWN FLESH I DIDN'T LOVE BETTER!!! But he had to say 'Nooooooooo'
