Eisner was happily married and not gay. He was also one of the finest writers and artists to grace the pages of comic books and pioneered many of the techniques that became synonymous with comics. The Spirit of the comics is hardly promiscuous. He has beautiful women around him all of the time, but the relationships were hardly sexual. P'Gell is a femme fatale and their relationship is a bit more complex, but as the wore on, the Spirit always knew that P'Gell reappearing meant trouble. Sand Serrif was a childhood friend, so the story is less about love than having to deal with stopping a former friend. Ellen Dolan was always the closest to a real romantic relationship, though it was pretty platonic.
