Can't you get a refund for a movie you walked out on?

I'm reading alot about how people walked out on this film or complained how they lost $15+ watching it. It's been awhile since I've seen a really REALLY bad film and have never walked out on one, preferring to suffer thru it. I'm just wondering, these days do movie theatres give refunds on movies? Or do they just say "too bad"?

A friend of mine got a refund for a Steve Martin movie called "Mixed Nuts". No argument either. Apparently everyone was asking for one.

I live in the UK and no cinema I've been to in my life here will give refunds for walking out or simply thinking a movie sucked. I've recieved refunds for things like sound cutting out or the camera being out of focus etc but disliking the film never got me anywhere.

When you think about it it makes a lot of sense to be honest, why should a movie theatre give you a refund for a film you didn't like? they make money from people going to watch movies at their venue and it's not like there's a 100% guarantee before going in that you're going to love the film, you're going to watch it because you want to see what it's like after viewing the trailers or posters.

I worked in a movie theater here in Mexico for a while... and they didn't give any refunds just for not liking the movie. They were some movies though that had a "Cinepolis warranty"... they were the only ones you could ask your money back if you didn't like them.

So yeah, I was the one that said "I'm sorry sir/madam... we can't give you a refund..." They got so angry sometimes =S... Not a really nice job you know... lol

Theaters will generally give refunds for technical issues, though they will try to give you passes for a future visit instead. Quality issues probably depend on the situation. Offensive material might warrant a major reaction that forces the issue. However, refunds depend on how persistent you are. the only time I ever asked for one was because my girlfriend became ill before the movie started and we had to leave. I requested a refund, since we weren't going to get to see the show and had no idea if we would ever get to return. The theater tried the free passes but I refused, stating the medical condition didn't make that a foreseeable option.

Leaving that aside, when you pay theater prices, you want to feel like you at least got something for your money, even if it was a bad experience. Since you went to all of that trouble, you feel like you have to see it through. I have felt like walking out of two movies: Streets of Fire and Mary Reilly. Both films bored the heck out of me and the acting was horrible. the only reason i stayed for Streets was because of the music, which I liked, and I had to drive 20 miles to get to the theater. With Mary Reilly, I got in free as the guest of a friend who worked at the theater. We hated the movie, but it didn't cost us anything.
