What Year is this supposed to be???

I know the original Spirit comics was written in the 1920's and the feel of the film, the Police Uniforms and Cars have a 20's-30's feel for them, the building have that 20's architecture look. But they have cell phones, and at the end of the movie the cannon that the rookie uses, the two machine guns that the Octopus uses and those Attack Copters are all very modern.

So what time period is this supposed to be??

Sorry, two's company, and three's an adult movie.

I wondering the same thing. In the very beginning of the movie they show people using cell phones, then two seconds later they show a cop car that looks like it was built in the 30's. The city skyline is full of water storage tanks...towers or whatever from the 30's or 40's. Then they show modern helicopters. Old school trench coats and fedoras mixed with modern clothes and weapons.

Aside from being heavily influenced by the style in Sin City which also mixed decades. The first film I saw that did this was the first Tim Burton Batman. The Joker and his men in pin stripe suits, 30's cop cars, but computers.

Not that important, but just FYI: don't know about other cities, but those are still in use in New York City today. They are used because the city's water pressure is only enough to push water up through the pipes to the sixth floor. So every building with more floors will have one on top of the building, or alternatively they have large storage tanks in the basement combined with pumps and pressure-reducing valves.
