This just proves Frank Miller had nothing to do with Sin City.

In terms of directing the movie, that is.

The Spirit is a piece of garbage which just proves that when you give the reigns to Frank Miller, he makes an abomination.

Sin City was probably all directed by Robert Rodriguez with only Miller nodding his head and saying yes to everything RR suggested.

What is so abominable in the spirit movie in your opinion ?

I think it proves that directing is a skill that has to be developed and that crafting a comic book and a movie require different skill sets, despite the overlap. Miller was a first-time director. Being a gifted storyteller is essential, but you also have to manage the crew and guide the actors. You don't have that in a comic book. The editor manages the "crew" and Miller was able to craft his characters from his head, he didn't have to convey those ideas to another person and get them to then act that out, with their own skills and personality.

Miller may have done some "directing" on Sin City, but he was at least heavily mentored and Rodriguez shaped any footage in the editing stage.

That's just stupid. Anyone who's read Sin City knows that the movie is slavishly drawn from it. Virtually every shot is taken directly from the artwork in the comic.

Actually throughout this whole film I kept thinking how much the direction strongly resembled Sin City...

Yes, the visuals are the same stylistically, but the pacing, tone, and direction for the actors is way off. This could have been a pretty good film if someone like Rodriguez was there to help him, but it's a mess as is.

Very much agree. The Spirit is as bad, as Sin City was good. Miller definitely needed a guardian angel.
