Is it really that bad?

I've never seen it myself but all I hear about this movie is that it's bad in the league of The Room and Gigli. Are there certain aspects of the film that are just terrible or is the whole thing just a mess?

The movie looks GORGEOUS. But that's about it. I really wanted to like the movie, but I just can't. I've tried watching it several times, I even own it on DVD. But I just can't finish it. Maybe my expectations were too high since I loved 'Sin City', but this was too cartoon-ish.

I can't say it's the worse movie i've seen, since I didn't finish it. But I hardly ever stop watching movies mid-way, and I've seen some really bad, bad, utterly stupid movies that I've sat through and finished. Pretty much, if you can sit through 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen', 'From Dusk Till Dawn II', or 'House of the Dead', you might be able to sit through this. No offense to people who actually like those films. Just not my cup of tea. My .02.

IMHO, it is that bad, Joey. I saw THE SPIRIT in the theatre and it was quite painful to watch, but I managed to stay through to the end. It didn't get better.

I agree with Exit, it looked great, and I wanted to love it, too.

Hey, not saying you shouldn't see it. If I hadn't seen it already, I'd be curious, too.

If you do end up seeing it, please come back and post your thoughts on this thread.

It's not BAD at all. It looks great, it's kinda fun, it's unique and entertaining enough, and if it is bad it's intentional cheese. It's not a great film in the conventional sense but the visuals are so good that it's hard to put it in the same league as something like The Room...

A friend of mine said, "it has too much plot and too little, Samuel Jackson is obviously playing the villain role bat *beep* insane, the lead actor has no presence, the Spirit has sex with Death, and the whole thing is just an excuse to lech on attractive women." She said the movie would have been better if it was just ScarJo and crazy Sam Jackson.

I'm about 15 minutes in and it's killing me. The only thing I kept thinking is 'This like "Roger Rabbit" without the animation!'

The action/violence is just so incredibly broad and over the top, it's ridiculous and really painful. Not sure if I'm going to continue.

it's great but the end is a little shaky

It's definitely for a limited audience but if Frank Miller's film noir is your thing then it's quite enjoyable. If it's not your thing then you'll snooze through it.
