Why did Frank Miller film The Spirit in the style of Sin City?

I mean, he bulldozed his own Sin City style over the top of another writer/artist's creation.

Quite a strange decision and also a pretty shabby thing for one artist to do to another's work .

That's exactly what I think.

If you like Will Eisner's work and think the Spirit was great, you were almost bound to reject what Frank Miller did with it. Or that was my reaction.

Calling disagreement hate is childish.

Because Frank Miller lost his mind a long time ago.

He had zero respect for Will Eisner and his work. That was evident from his garbage script and even worse Sin City-lite take on this classic character.

Hubris.

Because he was making a FRANK MILLER MOVIE, not a true movie adaptation of The Spirit.

Exactly.
