Roadside Picnic, by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky

Maybe someone has mentioned it before, but doesn't the concept in this series have some similarities with the concept in Roadside Picnic?

It does have a striking similarity to the novel, as well as a movie "STALKER"
directed by Andrei Tarkovsky.
