Where can I find it?

I'm watching the AMC remake right now. I really like it, and am interested in the original. I've looked on Amazon and Netflix but I can't find it.

It's not being sold in the US as Americans tend not to watch films that aren't American produced or do not feature American actors. They miss out big-time as a result. However if you go to http://www.amazon.co.uk/Killing-DVD-Jonas-Leth-Hansen/dp/B004KKPQMI/re f=cm_cr-mr-title you can buy it there. Read the reviews while you're there.

NB It's expensive at the moment as it's just been released. Wait a few months and the price should decrease noticeably. The consensus of opinion for those critics who have seen both is that the original is better, especially regarding the political stuff.

I watched the debut episode and it was respectable. Obviously a lot swifter and more emotional than the rather dry (not to mention interminable) original.

When it comes to showing them in theaters or on TV, that's true enough. But there have been a number of foreign-language TV shows/mini-series that have been released on DVD in the US. Among them: Berlin Alexanderplatz, The Decalogue, Das Boot, The Kingdom, and Epitafios.

Keep in mind, though, that it's a Region 2 PAL DVD, and might not be playable on a US DVD player.

But probably will be OK on a PC

If they post to the US: www.play.com - it's where I bought my copy from, but it's pricey!

You can find it on Netflix under Forbrydelsen. It is only available on DVD.

reply

You can just watch it online for free as an alternative

reply

I looked on Netflix and the only thing with that title is a movie by Lars von Trier called Forbrydelsens Element from 1984. How did you find it?

reply

download it using Utorrent then use Iso Hunt or Pirate Bay.
I don't know about the AMC US version but the Danish is really good.

Also available in Australia (Region 4) PAL format, although the Australian producers, Madman Entertainment, generally release most of DVDs region free (Region 0). It is in the Australian/UK/European PAL format though and your equipment will need to be able to receive that. This series was previously released in 2 separate volumes for Series One and has been replaced by this complete series.

A good Australian online retailer, Devoted DVD, can confirm your compatibility requirements prior to purchase,

Bear in mind that that both this release and the UK Region 2 release are not sold in huge volumes and consequently price discounting may be limited. They export ex-GST to off-shore residents.

A good UK price watch service online is Find-DVd which I use daily to monitor price movements. Here is a direct link to the title in question:

If ordering from Amazon UK, and you live outside the UK and Europe, you can import the DVD ex-VAT, which is now 20% if they warehouse it in mainland UK (not applicable if stock is warehoused in the Channel Islands or Europe) and can make the purchase worthwhile.

Having seen both the original and the Canadian produced series, the original, as usual, is the better of the two, imho. Mind you, I do have a passion for "Nordic Noir" crime series and sub-titles become redundent to me after a period and never an issue.

Hope this helos. Good luck. :)

I'd wait awhile and see if Amazon will sell it after the AMC version has aired. I bought it at the UK site for Region 2 and it's $$.

You really should see it as it's great in it's own right and I'm officially hooked.:)

The American version is dire.
In the Danish version acting, story, pacing, music are all understated, but sublime.
Would go as far to say it's the greatest detective tv series ever made.

Does anyone know where I can find the mooted German Blu-Ray edition of the Danish original? I hear it's dubbed but wouldn't be surprised if the original dialogue was on the disc, too.

Cheers.
