I watched The US version....

It was out of ignorance more than anything, I just didn't realise that it was a remake unfortunately.
Obviously I know there are 12 eps in the first season of the US one, and 20 in the original.
Without giving a way spoilers, does anyone know if the Us version is very different plot wise ( I realise execution might be very different) for the first 12 episodes?
