Best Cop Show Ever?
For me:
1. The Wire
2. The Killing
3. Prime Suspect
4. Five Days
5. Morse

I agree with the similarity between Sarah Lund and Jane Tennison. Both are obsessive to the point of being dysfunctional outside their respective workplaces.
I sometimes wonder how Tennison would cope with retirement. She'd probably have become a total soak.
Prime Suspect had a lot of the same elements as Forbrydelsen - a tenacious woman heading a murder investigation; said woman cops a lot of flack from men in power; a chaotic home life; gripping plot lines which keep you coming back for more; she is the only one who is not prepared to simply grab the first suspect and make him take the wrap, so that everyone can then go to the pub to celebrate.
This show doesn't even make my Top 10 as far as cop shows go. To call it the second best after 'The Wire' should be a punishable crime.
I did like it though.

I would add:
- Law and Order (1978)
- Out (1978)
- Twin Peaks
I'd throw The Shield in there too.
share1. The Wire by far, as a NYPD officer, definitely the most realistic police drama
2. The Killing, not nearly as good as The Wire or as real but very entertaining.
Law and Order, The Shield and other cop dramas in my opinon pale in comparison to the greatness that is The Wire.
