After his success with Danish crime drama The Killing, Birger Larsen is making his UK director debut with a one-off crime drama called Murder. The one-hour programme is due to be shown on Sunday 26 August 2012 on BBC Two.
A young woman lies dead in a Nottingham flat with her terrified sister barricaded in the bathroom. Meanwhile, a young man, who they had only met 14 hours earlier, is pulled over for speeding. His shirt is blood stained. What happened in those 14 hours?
The two sisters Coleen and Erin Lowell are played, respectively, by Karla Crome and Lara Rossi. The young man Stefan is played by Joe Dempsie.
Using personal testimony, Murder revisits the missing moments using CCTV footage, flashbacks and forensic evidence. The protagonists speak direct to camera giving their version of events.
“I can say without exaggeration that it was the best script I have seen since The Killing,” said Larsen in a BBC press release. “I was attracted to the fact that it’s written in such a way that the actors talk direct to camera. It feels original and intimate. You’re drawn into their world – you see it through their eyes.”
